3rd Grade curriculum
Reading
Ms. Parling will be teaching language arts to our classes this year with the National Geographic reading program. Accelerated Reader will be used to allow students to read at their specific reading range. Goals will be set each marking period with reward incentives too.
Writing
Our writing program uses a combination of Marcia Freeman's Craft Plus along with new material from National Geographic to teach students how to write personal narratives, expository pieces, and compare and contrast. Students will be using graphic organizers from Writing by Design to help them organize their thoughts and better prepare for writing. Ms. Parling will be teaching writing this year too.
Math
Our math program is very hands on. In the Everyday Math program, children develop a broad background by learning concepts and skills in all six content strands. I will be teaching math to both classes.
Science
The National Geographic science program will be integrated into the reading lessons. It is hands on and allows groups to work together collectively. I will be teaching this.
Social Studies
We will be studying Michigan History this year. We'll discover so many interesting things together about our wonderful state. I'm excited teach your third grader about Michigan!
