Classroom Rules and Important Information
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year to help him/her achieve his/her highest potential. The following is some information that will hopefully answer many of your questions regarding my classroom policies.
Parent Participation
Throughout the school year there will
be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations. I encourage
you to attend these functions when possible and to support them by donating
supplies and treats, if you are able. Your support of school activities
makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value
school. Also, volunteers are always welcome in my classroom. I’ll be
sending home a schedule for those of you who are interested in volunteering on a
regular basis. If you’re not able to volunteer at school, but would like
to assist with doing things at home I’d appreciate that help too.
RULES:
Our classroom will follow the school-wide B.E.S.T. Rules and Matrix. Please see the "B.E.S.T. Rules" tab for detailed Matrix for each specific area of the school.
B--I will be kind to others.
E--I will respect myself and others.
S--I will practice safe behaviors and respect the safety of others.
T--I will take care of my property and respect other's property.
Class Dojo: This is an online "points reward" system that we'll be using this year to keep track of positive and negative behaviors. Each time your child earns 30 points he/she can cash them in for a reward. You can download the free app to stay up to date with their progress.
Book Orders
Your child will be bringing
home book orders about once a month. If you wish to order, simply go to www.scholastic.com and use the class code on the book order form. You will pay for the books online. They will be shipped to the classroom. Then I'll send them home with your child. These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy quality books for their child at a low price. As an added bonus, for every dollar that is spent on books, our classroom earns bonus points which are used to purchase books for our classroom
library. This is a win-win situation because you get quality literature at
a low price and you are helping to provide quality literature for our
classroom. Of course, you are never under any obligation to
order.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If your child wishes, he/she may
bring treats for the class on his/her birthday. Please send a note a
few days in advance, so I can set aside some class time for the party. I usually have napkins and plates in the room, but if your treat requires something extra (spoons, forks, etc.) please send that in too.
Summer birthdays can be celebrated at anytime during the school year.
Please let me know the date of your choice, so that it doesn’t conflict with any
other birthdays.
Lunch:
**these were last year's prices. I'm checking to see if they changed***
Lunch is $2.25, this includes milk. Please label your
child’s lunch bag/box with their first and last name. When your child is
buying lunch/milk, the money should be sent in a sealed envelope or baggie with
their name, and 3rd Grade Mrs.Stahl.
Classroom Monetary Donation:
I will be using a “treasure box" as part of our
behavior management reward system throughout the school year. If
you’re able to make a donation to purchase items for these rewards it’d be
very much appreciated!
Specials/Recess:
A schedule will be sent home informing you of when we will be having
our specials. Please remember to help your child plan to wear tennis shoes on Physical Education days. Also, we do go outside for recess. Watch the weather daily to help decide what your child should wear. Just a reminder the school policy states flip
flops are not allowed for safety reasons.
Healthy snack/Water bottle
Your child is encouraged to bring a healthy snack and water bottle each day. Healthy snacks could include: fruits, veggies, cheese, crackers, trail mix, popcorn, etc. There may be times when we are working and snacking, so finger foods are the easiest. If the snack requires a spoon, fork, etc. please send that in too. I do have extras, but we tend to run out quickly :)
If you are able to donate snacks to the class for a day when kids forget that would be so appreciated! It's hard to work/think when we're hungry.
Your child will be allowed to have a water bottle (no juice, pop, etc.) at their seat too. Water bottles will be sent home each night to be cleaned. We also have a drinking fountain in our classroom.
School Attendance
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Many of our activities are group oriented and will require the use of classroom materials. Therefore, it may be difficult to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority. If your child is ill or there is an emergency, please keep him/her at home. If you know your child will be absent, please notify the office by calling (734) 529-7044.
Changes in Transportation
If you plan to pick up a child who normally rides the bus or you wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you MUST send a written note. Do not rely on your child to tell me this information. If a written note is not received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation. This is the school’s policy for your child’s safety.
Outdoor Recess
The children will be going out for recess everyday, unless it is raining or 10 degrees or below. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing for the day. A jacket is expected for weather cooler than 60 degrees.
Sincerely,
Nicki Stahl
